The Legislature’s appropriation of almost $230 million to homelessness in fiscal year 2026, is the largest coordinated investment in our state’s history and if it’s deployed with system-level clarity and collaboration, these resources can position New Mexico as a national leader in housing stability.
We have the resources, now we must act. By aligning resources and committing to system-wide coordination, we can build an effective, strategic response grounded in housing and prevention. We also know that lasting change will not come from one-off projects with familiar approaches. It requires us to build trust across levels of government and with communities, develop a shared purpose, and most important, quickly demonstrate shared success.
The FY 2026 Action Plan offers a clear path forward that builds a foundation for collaborative governance, community-informed planning, statewide data collection and evaluation, and immediate results for New Mexicans.
